The UK Skim Fest is over for another year, and what a mix it was this year!

We had the warm sun, some good skimmers - but we lacked the waves this year.

Both days saw a good turnout, with the prize for the furthest travelled goes to the Patterson family who came all the way from Fife in Scotland for the event!

Yeah, it’s that time of year again, we are busy preparing for this years UK Skim Fest!

We are pleased to confirm that Zap Skimboards is sponsoring the event again, and we have already taken delivery of all the prizes which include 2 Zap Wedges skimboards, board bags, stickers, wax, hats and t-shirts.

Circle One are also on board as sponsor this year, and have given a load of goodies to win in the prize draw. They will also have a load of demo boards on hand for you to try out!

As in previous years, the prize draw will be raising money for the Devon Air Ambulance who do an outstanding job of supplying much need rapid medical assistance throughout the whole of Devon.

For the 2nd year running, the recently held Preston Skim Contest was a great success.

We had to cancel the contest on the Saturday due to wind and rain, so instead the older guys split the competitors into 3 groups and gave them a coaching session so the younger competitors could learn some new tricks.

Luckily Sunday was blessed with much better weather, and we managed to run the whole contest through in one day. We had about the same number of competitors as last year, with both familiar and new faces in the competitor line up.

Thanks to all the competitors who helped make this a fantastic event. Big thanks must go to the 3 judges (Rob, Chris and Graham) who did a great job!

Thanks must also go to the event organisers and sponsors: Sandskater, The Boathouse, Circle One and Perry Mason Solicitors. A special mention of thanks to Bob Brewis from the Community Partnership who liaised between the event organisers and Torbay Council.

Following on the the success with last years event we have teamed up with The Boathouse and the community partnership again to organise a weekend of skim fun aimed directly at the local community and tourists.

Contest entry is free, but you must be a member of Skim UK for insurance purposes. (£5 junior/£10 senior). Entries are already coming in thick and fast, so get your entry in early to avoid disappointment.

We have just finished putting the 2008 Sandskater Oleron road trip photos online.

As you may be aware, Île d’Oléron is a small island off the west coast of France, and is home to some awesome skimboarding and surfing beaches with every conceivable wave set up available on the island.

The latest round of the Skim UK Tour at Lands End has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

It is a real shame that we have had to do this is as the previous 2 contests were great. Skim UK has been struggling to find enough entrants to make this contest viable, despite the feedback from competitors that more contests are wanted.

Instead, there will be a series of non competitive skim jam’s held over the summer months to try and re-gain some interest. Then in September/October we’ll capitalise on the interest at the Skim Fest and schedule a contest just after the fest in September/October.

So the tour will now conclude in the autumn.

The postponed Skim UK tour contest at Lands End has been rescheduled for either the 20/21 April or 26/27 April.

We have decided for a 2 week holding period, and the contest will be called on when the conditions look best. The decision to run the contest will be posted here, on the Skim UK website and on the Sandskater message board events forum.

So you have all been put on notice - get your boards out and brush up on your skills now!
