A rare chance to score big skim during the summer months saw some of the Sandskater & Paignton crew join the Bournemouth posse down at Mother Iveys Bay on Sunday.
We met up to get some filming done for the forthcoming Sandskater skim dvd - Scratch.
There was some head high peaks coming through and offloading onto the beach, which gave the tourists to the area a rare glimpse of power of one of Britains heaviest waves.
We got in the water at 8.30am to catch the receding tide. Come low tide at midday, the place was overrun with boogers (bodyboarders) who were scoring some of the sickest wedgy peaks we had seen in a long time.
Most of the skimmers bodyboarded while the skim was crap at low tide - notable stand outs in the bodyboarding was Paignton local Alex Woodmore, and Sandskater team rider Mark Mason. Both were taking a serious pounding from the big shorebreak waves.
Sandskater bodyboard teamer, Chris Levi, was in his element at what has become his second home. Big waves & heavy barrels have become his trademark, and he didn’t disappoint with some quality waves.
When the tide started pushing in again during the afternoon, we got the skimboards out and shot off some more film with Chris using his waterhousing to get some incredible angles for the video.
A very tiring but enjoyable day for everybody involved.
