10 Paignton youngsters are heading over to France this week to compete in the 2008 Skimboard International at Hossegor.
The teenagers are some of the UK’s best skimboarders, and the trip has been arranged by local skimboarding specialists, Sandskater, who are based at Manor Corner in Preston.
The event, which is held over 3 days, attracts skimboarders from all over the world, including Portugal, Brazil and the USA.
Local skimboarder, Adam Wootton 17, will be competing in France, said “This is a great opportunity to showcase the level of the UK skimboarding scene.” Adam, who won his place on the trip by improving his skimboarding throughout the 2008 season stands a good chance of placing highly in the U18 division. “I got a top 10 finish last year, so this year I am looking to place in the top 5.” he said.
Matt Martin, owner of local business Sandskater said “I am proud to support the local lads on this trip, they have worked so hard this year to improve their level of skimboarding, and they are now amongst the best in the UK.” Matt, who is also competing in France added ”It’s going to be a lot of fun, and they will learn loads from some of the world’s best”.
